REDEFINING EDUCATION: A JOURNEY INTO EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Today's episode from the GNACOPS secretariat diary, an initiative promoting the theme for the year:Reimagine, Rethink, Redeliver; Crafting a Perpetual Education Evolution, focuses on Emotional intelligence.

REDEFINING EDUCATION: A JOURNEY INTO EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Our educational system’s planning, delivery, and assessment have been heavily influenced by academic intelligence, progressively scoring and scaling meaningful education outcomes. This has resulted in societal challenges that remain unaddressed.

It is crucial for educational stakeholders, especially private education operators, to reimagine and rethink the foundation to redeliver education, reflecting the total development of every learner for future demands that are yet unknown. The education system delivery is now voyaging far beyond textbooks and academic intellectuals into a holistic transformative process that moulds the future and nurtures well-rounded individuals.

Recognizing this critical understanding aspect of 21st-century education demands underscores the need for educators to delve deeper into emotional intelligence.
This is pivotal for cultivating emotional resilience and interpersonal understanding in learners. We must unlearn teaching methods that haven’t resolved our challenges and embark on a journey to relearn and develop the Fu tu re we envision for our beloved country.

UNDERSTANDING EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

The total reflection of a person’s ability to demonstrate essential emotional qualities, such as self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and effective interpersonal skills, which bring about positive and constructive interaction between the person and the environment, is called Emotional Intelligence (El). These abilities create enabling energies and qualities in the individual, helping them develop well-being and contribute positively to the nation’s development.

The seamless integration of El elements into teaching and learning activities will potentially create a nurturing environment fostering not only academic growth but also emotional well-being.

This consideration is crucial and non-negotiable, given society’s complex demands as a nation nowadays. We live in an increasingly sophisticated and evolving society that demands the reimagining and redelivery of every aspect of education.
